UVM Office of Engagement Prepares Central Vermont Economy & Workforce Report
In coordination with the 12 RDCs of Vermont, Central Vermont Economic Development Corp., partners with the UVM Extension Center to collect, review, and interpret data about our region’s economy and workforce.
The report received this week details information on our regional population’s education, working preferences, as well as the defining industry features of our region, the skills needed in our workforce, and the major drivers of the economy in Central Vermont.
Findings of the report include an aging population, as well as an increase in postgraduate degrees. Housing values in our region have increased over the ten years the study measured. Rental vacancies for Central Vermont have decreased, with the number of renters in our region remaining similar.
Labor force participation in our region has decreased over the ten year period in the study by 3.8%, a figure that includes data from the Covid-19 pandemic.
UVM’s report also analyzed the skills Central Vermont’s employers are looking for most: computer and information systems managers and software developers. The region also seeks skilled workers in management, marketing, and in the health services and HR industries.
