  • After the employer registers for the program and is accepted, they will receive a grant award and can begin interviewing. The employer may post a job listing and receive queries directly about their position. When the employer finds a good candidate, they will let Jim and Melissa know so an MOU can be drawn up between CVEDC and the employer. The employer will hire the intern through its normal hiring process.

  • The employer pays the intern $20/hour along with regular payroll. CVEDC and the employer will discuss CVEDC’s planned contribution to the intern’s pay at the start of the program, and sign an MOU agreeing to the terms of the program, including that both employer and Norwich offer liability insurance. The employer can invoice for reimbursement to CVEDC to cover the subsidized part of the intern’s pay. This can happen biweekly or in a single payment at the conclusion of the internship.

  • Employers enrolled in the pilot can receive up to $2000 in wage subsidy (as a reimbursement) to support a $20/hour wage for an intern between April 27, 2024 and February 28, 2025. CVEDC will provide guidance to employers on the job postings, and Norwich University will share the job postings with its networks. Once the intern has been selected, CVEDC will provide an MOU between the employer and CVEDC so the subsidy can be paid. During the program, both the employer and the intern have access to professional development and networking meet-ups. The students are required to attend two of these three sessions. The employer sessions will be determined based on interest and availability.

  • • Plan a project for the intern to work on during the summer (in addition to help with regular work of the organization).
    • Designate an intern supervisor
    • Be prepared to pay the intern $20 an hour for their work (with reimbursement available as discussed for subsidy support from CVEDC)
    • Maintain a safe, positive, and respectful work environment
    • Sign an MOU with CVEDC to address shared liability and to be reimbursed for some of the intern’s pay

  • The intern supervisor should orient the student to the workplace and the intern’s colleagues, help teach the student the unique knowledge of the workplace, be available for questions and to chat about the student’s acclimation to the workplace, and supervise the student’s work.

  • • Comply with all the workplace policies
    • Conduct themselves in a professional manner and in ways consistent with the University’s Code of Student Conduct and in compliance with the internship site’s personnel policies.
    • Report problems including safety or personnel issues within the workplace and to Norwich/CVEDC as needed.
    • Attend minimum of 2 Professional Development sessions.
